I realized as a senior in high school that vet med was the right track for me. As a believer in Christ, I know that this path was placed in my heart for a reason, and it has never been a question for me as to whether it was right or not. It definitely hasn't been easy and there have been a lot of obstacles and discouraging moments, but I still have a passion for this field and know that it's the right one for me!
In 2008 I began working at my first veterinary job in Orlando. Shortly after, I was accepted to intern for Sea World, which is when I began to develop an interest in aquatic animal medicine, including rehabilitation. To get more involved in the field I founded an organization at UCF called Knights for Marine and Wildlife Conservation. Through that organization I was able to work with some really amazing people to reach out to my peers and the public about conservation and how we can positively impact the environment through volunteering and fundraising. The organization quickly grew from about 20 members to now over 300 members!
In 2011 I graduated college and was accepted to intern at the Navy's Marine Mammal Program in San Diego. That was a life changing experience for me, not only because of the incredible opportunities I had but also because I moved across the country to a new city where I knew not a single person! Near the end of my internship is when I learned that I had been accepted into veterinary school, and here we are today :)
There isn't a lot of free time in vet school, but the one thing I do make time for is my dog. I've had Rhyley since I was 18. She's been with me through so many life changes over 7 years, including 3 different states and 6 different apartments. She's my best friend and a lot of the times my photography buddy, which is my main hobby outside of school [you can check out my flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/hillarywolfe]! As for my future, I still don't know exactly what I'll do when I graduate, but really as long as I'm a vet it'll be good enough for me :)
I miss reading your blog! You should start posting again, if you have time of course.. and I'm sure others also miss your updates/are curious as to what you've been up to since your last post. Also, I noticed your "about me" section says you've been blogging for years - but where's your old blog!? I'm sure it's hilarious - your posts are informative, yes, but also make me laugh! Hope all is well.
